PROMOTING A CLASSROOM CLIMATE
Promoting a good climate for Community Relations in the classroom involved:
- Mutual trust
- Respect for ourselves and others
- Development of positive relationships bewteen teacher/pupil and pupil/pupil
- Encouraging a listening atmosphere
- Co-operation rather than competition
- Arriving at an agreed contract through negotiation
- Raising the self-esteem of everyone in the class
- Establishing a safe environment where views can be expressed without fear of put downs
- Promoting a sense of fairness and justice
- Promoting real opportunities for pupils to play an important and active role within a democratic classroom
